Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has become a minority owner at Swansea City, it has been revealed.

Per , Modric has purchased a minority stake in the Welsh club. The Swans' ownership changed in November, and Modric will now join the board, although it is unclear how much he has invested, or the stake he has secured. They are currently without a manager, with Alan Sheehan in caretaker charge after Luke Williams was sacked in March.

The 39-year-old still harbours ambitions of staying at Madrid and would like to sign a new contract, as his expires at the end of the season. However, there are yet to be any indications that the Spanish giants will offer him a fresh deal and reports suggest the Croatian could be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Swansea are 12th in the Championship and are eight points off the play-offs with four games of the season to go. A late push for promotion is possible, albeit unlikely, and Modric will hope to bring his wealth of experience to the club in order to guide their stated ambition of returning to the Premier League. They have not been in the top flight since 2018.
