Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has revealed that teammate Luke Shaw ‘shocked’ him during his first training session with the senior side.
Tuanzebe, 20, came through the youth system at Man United before making his first-team debut during the 2016-17 campaign.
The centre-back made his first Premier League appearance of this season, meanwhile, as a late substitute against Everton on New Year’s Day.
The England Under-21 international has said that he will never forget his first training session with Man United’s senior side, and also commented on his teammate Shaw.
Tuanzebe has claimed that Shaw ‘was an absolute bullet’ on the training field, and the youngster sees his fellow defender ‘as a benchmark’.
Tuanzebe told Inside United:
“You don’t forget the first time you train with the first team.. I remember vividly that Luke Shaw was absolutely rapid. It shocked me that I couldn’t get near him.
“He was an absolute bullet, just amazing. From that moment, I had him as a benchmark for myself, in terms of how sharp he is.”
Shaw struggled for football in the early stages of the season, but has now started Man United’s last three Premier League matches.
Both players are expected to be involved when Jose Mourinho’s side host Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
